late 2015, the FDA approved Bellafill, a dermal filler injectable similar in some ways to Juvederm & Restylane, but with the ability to last safely for five years. With other hyaluronic acid fillers requiring an appointment every 9-12 months, Bellafill lasts considerably longer. However, unlike those short term treatments, Bellafill is not reversible. You will also need to check if you are allergic to cow collagen ahead of the procedure, as well as lidocaine. This and any other major allergies should be addressed with your dermatologist prior to the procedure.

How Does Bellafill work?

Originally approved for nasolabial folds (smile lines) and indented acne scars, Bellafill can also be used for cheeks.
Bellafill is composed of 80% purified bovine collagen and 20% polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres, Bellafill adds volume to the skin in order to plump up wrinkles and scars.

Are there any side effects to Bellafill?

Potential side effects may include swelling, redness, pain, bruising, lumps/bumps, itching, and discoloration in the first few days. Some patients have experienced lumps and bumps in the first few weeks overall.

Less common side effects include rash and itching more than 48 hours after treatment, persistent swelling or redness, lumps/bumps, acne, and increased sensitivity at treatment sites.

Recovery after BellaFill® Treatment

After the procedure, most patients are able to resume their normal daily routine right away; there’s virtually no downtime. Some individuals notice some discomfort for the first few days; we can suggest some skin care products to provide relief until the discomfort fades away on its own.

Using a mild facial cleanser and moisturizer twice daily will also help your skin adjust more easily. Over time, the results of your BellaFill® treatment will become more visible, giving your skin a restored, rejuvenated appearance.
